Malayalam’s well-known actor Sasi Kalinga passed away at the age of 59 on Tuesday morning in Kozhikode. For quite some time Sasi was undergoing treatment for a liver-related illness.
The actor was quite popular in Malayalam film industry for his unique facial expressions and was recently suffering from liver ailments, because of which he was admitted for the treatment to a private hospital in Kozhikode for quite some time, as per to Manorama Online report.
Kalinga Sasi, the tall Malayalam actor known for unique facial expressions, passed away in Kozhikode on Tuesday morning. He was 59 years old. Manorama reports that Sasi was undergoing treatment for a liver-related ailment. Sasi is survived by his wife Prabhavati.
Sasi, whose real name is V Chandrakumar, took part in several plays for about 25 years before entering the movies. He was born to Chandrasekharan Nair and Sukumari in Kozhikode. Initially, he was a theater actor who then afterward started working in cinema.
His famous role of Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohandas Manalath which he played in the murder mystery Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha was given by Director Ranjith who especially chose him for this role.
On the other hand, Mathrubhumi reports that the first role of Sasi in a film came in the year 1998 when he acted in the film Thakarachanda as Palanichami. He had also played the male lead role in a movie named Hello Innu Onnaam Theeyathiyani, which was directed by Sahadevan Iyyakkad.
In most of the movies of Kalinga Sasi, you must have seen him performing comedy roles. He was very popular for his facial expressions where his mouth would form an inverted crescent, along with other comical expressions that he could make with his jaw itself.
Kalinga Sasi was a very well-known experienced actor who has acted in more than a hundred films that also includes Pranchiyettan and the Saint, Adaminte Makan Abu, Amen, Idukki Gold, Vellimoonga, Jilebi among many others. He was last seen in the comedy-drama movie named Kuttimama, released previous year in 2019. Previous year, he also acted in movies such as Marconi Mathai, Oru Kadath Naadan Katha as well as Jimmmy Ee Veedinte Aiswaryam. The late actor throughout his lifetime, has acted in about 500 plays along with 100 Malayalam movies.
He had not only performed in the movies or plays but also acted in many television serials and got the fame there as well through his role in the short satirical show Munshi aired on Asianet News. Sasi was also working in the upcoming movies such as Ekajalakam, The Voter as well as the Son of Alibaba Nalpathonaman.
However, he had been always most active and available for the theater. After the news of his death was revealed, many celebrities of the Malayalam film industry as well as the fans also took to social media in order to pay their tribute and honor to the veteran actor.
Director Lijo Jose Pellissery took to his Facebook to share his deepest condolence and shared a photo of the actor where he wrote, “Amen”.
