Just ten days after announcing himself as a coronavirus positive patient, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been now admitted to the intensive care unit as the condition of the Prime Minister has worsened, a spokesman for the Prime Minister said in a statement.
He was taken to St. Thomas’ Hospital’s intensive care unit on Monday evening; however, he was at the hospital since Sunday evening, as earlier he was admitted as a “precautionary measure” for undergoing some “routine tests.”
Later on, as per to the advice of his medical team, he has been then moved to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.
The 55 years old Prime Minister, is reportedly still conscious as well as was moved to the ICU as a preventive measure in case he requires a ventilator, according to the statement of his office. However, the P.M. had earlier been carried out to work as well as fulfill his duties as Prime Minister while he was in isolation having coronavirus symptoms, now after seeing his worsening condition; Johnson has authorized Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab for leading the country in his place.
Raab, who is a former lawyer and has served in Parliament since the year 2010, has very little experience in the highest level of the government of British, earlier serving for four months as Brexit Secretary under former P.M. Theresa May in the year 2018 in advance Johnson appointed him for the foreign secretary role in the month of July.
Regarding Mr Johnson’s health, Queen has been kept informed up to date by No 10, as per to Buckingham Palace.
BBC political correspondent Chris Mason also stated that the Prime Minister was given oxygen late on Monday afternoon, in advance of taking him to intensive care.
Though he is kept in Intensive Care Unit at the hospital but has not been put on a ventilator as of now.
Mr Raab who is now going to chair the daily Covid-19 meeting of the government very soon has said there was an “incredibly strong team spirit” behind the Prime Minister.
He then also added that he along with his colleagues were ensuring that they executed plans Mr Johnson had instructed them to carry out “as soon as possible”.
Initially, Mr Johnson was also taken to the hospital for routine tests after he was tested positive for COVID-19, just 10 days before. His symptoms on the other hand consist of a high temperature as well as cough. Previously on Monday, he had also tweeted that he was in “good spirits”.
In the meantime, the death toll in United Kingdom due to coronavirus is more than 5,000 and the country is now being considered in the list of one of the highest death tolls in the world. The government on the other hand, has been planning to implement widespread testing as some evidence are indicating that that asymptomatic people may possibly carry as well as spread this deadly virus in the country.
