Top Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia has been ranked 2nd in the 65kg freestyle category in the most recent rankings. The list of latest rankings was recently released by United World Wrestling (UWW) April 1 (Wednesday).
The ranking shows, Bajrang Punia is in the second position, just below Gadzhimurad Rashidov who is Russia. In simple words, it means that he is going to get a top-four seeding in the Tokyo Olympics scheduled for next year. This is also applicable even if he fails the last ranking series play-offs.
On the other hand, Ravi Dahiya has secured the fourth position in the 57kg category. This also means that he is going for a top-four seeding for the Olympics.
In the meantime, Vinesh Phogat has been also successful to achieve the third rank in the women’s 53kg, just below Japan’s Mayu Mukaida who has achieved second spot and Yong Pak from North Korea. Vinesh successfully managed herself to be well placed in the top four positions, after getting a lead from the fifth-ranked wrestler of 18 points in total.
Taking about Bajrang points, he has also successfully managed to get a 19-point lead on his Japanese rival Takuto Otoguro who is currently ranked at the fifth position. On the other hand, Dahiya leads by six points from fifth-placed Nurislam Sanayev who is an Uzbekistan contestant.
In addition to this, Deepak Punia, who is the World Championships silver medalist is also ranked 2nd in the 86kg, and is just behind Hassan Yazdani from Iran and also has a 20-point lead on the fifth place.
