Thappad Box Office Collection (Day 2): With an average start on the first day, Taapsee Pannu starrer Thappad has witnessed a spike on Day 2 in its box office collection.
The social drama film was theatrically released on Friday, 28 February 2020, and at the end of the day, they managed to coin Rs 3.07 crore on Day 1. The movie also got critically acclaimed for its story and direction at the same time.
Coming to the second day early estimates, the movie accumulated around Rs 4 crore, directed by Anubhav Sinha. Box Office India also reported that the film witnessed a 75% growth on Saturday. Overall, in two days’ earnings, Thappad has registered Rs 7 crore (approx.) of box office collection.
The movie is a social drama film that has been directed by Anubhav Sinha, telling the story of a woman, Amrita (Taapsee Pannu), who gives an appropriate reply and files for divorce when her husband slaps her. Soon after the trailer of the movie was released, the film has received a lot of appreciation from the crowds.
The Taapsee Pannu-starrer had shown a good pace in Delhi-NCR, East Punjab, Gurugram as well as Faridabad, and the audiences are selecting this hard-hitting film on domestic violence ver other available options. Here, the film collected more than Rs 80 lakhs net at the day one of the box office.
As per the analysts, Thappad also needs to do well over the weekend for registering decent earnings at the box office. The film still has a tough job over the weekend to notch up the collection on Sunday and then maintain a stable leap ahead.
As far as the records are concerned, the movie “Thappad” has become the second-highest opener for a solo Taapsee film, after Sujoy Ghosh’s 2019-release movie Badla. Her other solo releases previous year were Game Over and Saand Ki Aankh, which also collected Rs 38 lakh and 48 lakh on their release days. While movie “Badla” on the other hand, had collected Rs 5.08 crore on its first day of release.
In the meantime, Thappad also marked the second collaboration of Taapsee and director Sinha. With Thappad, Taapsee has reunited with Sinha. The duo has previously worked together in the 2018 movie Mulk. At that time, the movie Mulk amassed Rs 1.60 crore on Day 1 at the box office.
In the meantime, two other Bollywood movies were released last weeks, such as Ayushmann Khurrana’s Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Vicky Kaushal’s Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship. Both movies are maintaining their slow pace as a new week starts. Ayushmann’s gay rom-com movie, managed a first-week earning of Rs 44.84 crore, while Vicky-starrer horror drama “Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship” managed not as much good and simply managed Rs 24.18 crore in domestic earnings at the end of the first week.
This year, the first two months have been quite disappointing for the Bollywood box office collection with several movies performing below expectations. Till now, several film releases such as Chhapaak, Panga, Street Dancer 3D, Jawaani Jaaneman, Shikara as well as Love Aaj Kal has failed to draw a large number of audience to the theatres.
