Joker 2: The 2019 blockbuster psychological thriller film, Joker, has created a lot of buzz after its release and to date everyone is eagerly waiting for its sequel to get released.
Directed and produced by Todd Phillips, the movie basically based on DC Comics characters and stars Joaquin Phoenix playing the role of Joker and providing a possible origin story for this popular character.
At the time of the release, the film was highly praised, especially for Phoenix’s performance, the musical score, cinematography as well as for the production values. The dark tone, the depiction of mental illness, as well as handling of violence in the film, divided opinion along with generating concerns of inspiring real-world violence.
Joker became a major box office success, the first-ever R-rated film to gross over $1 billion and broke most of the records. Now, the fans are eagerly waiting for its next part and want it to get release very soon but are the sequel announced yet? Let’s find out everything about Joker 2….
Do we have a sequel announced for Joker 2?
Initially, Joker was only planned to be a standalone film with no any further sequels, even though Warner Bros. wished-for to launch DC Black, a line of DC Comics-based films distinct to the DCEU with shadier and experimental material. Even Phillips earlier said in August 2019 that he would be very interested in making a sequel of the film, depending on the performance of the movie and if Phoenix is interested or not for further series, he later made it clear that the movie is not set up for any sequel.
However, on November 20, 2019, The Hollywood Reporter made the sweet announcement for the fans that a sequel was already in development, with Phillips, Silver, along with Phoenix likely to recurrence for their roles. Though, this good news didn’t last long as Deadline Hollywood on the same day reported that report from The Hollywood Reporter was false and that negotiations for the movie had not even started yet.
But later, Phillips responded to the reports and said that he had discussed a sequel with Warner Bros. and there is a possibility of a sequel, but the movie is not under development. So, we might be able to see the sequel of Joker 2 probably next year at the end of 2021.
