It’s becoming hard for the global governing body of the sport of cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) to make a decision regarding selecting a nation for hosting the ICC events in the new cycle of 2023 to 2031.
They are now is a huge dilemma and the reason behind this is because no big cricket nation wants to host the ICC events in the upcoming cycle which will start from 2023 and will carry on to 2031.
Whether its India, which has a great craze for cricket or the other members of big three club i.e., Australia or England and all the 3 have refused to bid for hosting rights of the ICC events. Leave away the Big 3 even nations such as New-Zealand and South Africa who have made the decision to stay away from submitting Expression of Interest (EOI).
As per to a report in leading English Daily, right now only three i.e., Pakistan, Malaysia as well as an association including the West Indies and the United States are interested full and associate members of the world body who have decided to come forward with an EOI in order to host the events of governing body.
Previously, this year on 13th February, ICC CEO Manu Sawhney had also written to all its full as well as associate members asking for them for submission of EOIs. The ICC CEO on the other hand had made it compulsory for the possible partners to take in the tax exemption guarantee letter by the corresponding governments together with the EOI.
In an another report from Times of India citing the source has said that none of the big cricket nation who have hosted so many cricket events earlier are ready to give EOI for the upcoming events.
As per to the report, England as well as Australia have declined to take part in it. India, on the other hand, did not even bother to respond back. Not only this, but even New Zealand has told the ICC in clear words that “there won’t be any EOIs up till the ICC chalks its international calendar for the 2023-31 rights cycle,”
Some of the reason behind BIG nations for staying away from ICC events seems to be as follows:
First, BCCI along with other cricket nations are unyielding that bilateral series calendars require to be worked out in advance of the ICC events are confirmed.
Secondly, ICC had proposed ICC event each year and as per to BCCI along with other members of BIG 3 Club, holding a worldwide event each year, would possibly decrease the prestige and value committed to winning a World Cup.
In addition to that, ICC CEO Manu Sahwney’s email has asked for Tax Exemption letters from the government together with EOI’S deprived of even conversing with the Big 3
Last but not the least, ICC CEO is also going in public without deliberating with Big 3 about monetization plan for the next cycle.
